A reorganisation of the large pile into several neat stacks (thereby allowing me to enjoy the illusion of progress) happened to bring this book to the top of one stack, so I finally picked it up in the hope of enjoying some light entertainment. The culture novels – sequential?

This is my first post here. Hope this is appropriate.

I have recently bought 'The Hydrogen Sonata' by Iain M Banks and read the first couple of chapters before realising that it is one of a series on novels. I have never read any of his stuff before so am not familiar with the 'culture' novels but I have discovered that this is the last one that he wrote before dying. I am wondering if anyone can tell me, do I need to read these novels sequentially? Should I put this one on hold until…
